PM Robert Abela In New York For UN General Assembly To Formally Recognise Palestine

Prime Minister Robert Abela is currently in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
During the event, he will formally recognise the State of Palestine on behalf of Malta, joining other countries in reaffirming support.
Abela reiterated Malta’s condemnation of the October 7, 2023 attacks carried out by the terrorist group Hamas and renewed calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all remaining hostages.
At the same time, Malta calls for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the pursuit of dialogue to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
The General Assembly is hosting more than 190 world leaders, including Heads of State and Government, who are engaging in discussions on a wide range of global issues.
Alongside his address to the Assembly, Prime Minister Abela will also be holding several bilateral and thematic meetings.
This year’s session, in the words of UN Secretary-General António Guterres, is guided by the theme: “United for a Better Tomorrow: 80 years and beyond of peace, rights, and human development.”
