PM Robert Abela Highlights New York Flight Link As Malta Targets Quality Tourism Growth

Prime Minister Robert Abela has said that a Labour Government will continue creating sustainable wealth by encouraging high-level investment that benefits both Maltese and Gozitan businesses and workers.
Speaking during a visit to boutique winery Markus Divinus alongside Labour Party Deputy Leader for Party Affairs Alex Agius Saliba, Economy Minister Silvio Schembri and Labour CEO Leonid McKay, Abela pointed to Malta’s recent economic achievements, including positive assessments from the European Commission, Eurostat and S&P Global.
The Prime Minister described tourism as the backbone of the Maltese economy and said the Government is strengthening connectivity with new markets in a bid to attract higher-quality tourism.
Abela highlighted the launch of Delta Air Lines’ direct route between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Malta International Airport. The service, which begins operating this weekend, will offer three direct flights per week, with the first flight set to arrive in Malta tomorrow morning.
During the visit, Markus Divinus owner Mark Borg explained how the winery produces around 6,000 bottles of local wine annually using grapes cultivated in collaboration with farmers in Siġġiewi, Rabat and Dingli. He said businesses like his are helping attract a growing number of gastronomic tourists, particularly visitors from the United States seeking authentic Maltese experiences.
