He said the system’s value lies not only in its technology but in its potential to empower innovation across areas such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, climate modelling, financial technology and aerospace.

Abela explained that the computer forms the core of DiHubMT, Malta’s European Digital Innovation Hub led by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority.

Through this initiative, businesses and start-ups will be able to “test before they invest”, making use of advanced digital tools and expertise.

He stated that the timing of the investment reflects Malta’s recognition of the importance of digital infrastructure as industries are reshaped by data and AI.

The Prime Minister added that the project signals Malta’s commitment to building capability and collaboration within European networks, contributing to the continent’s shared digital future.

He also linked the launch to Malta Vision 2050, a long-term plan aimed at driving innovation, sustainability and digital transformation across national industries.

Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri said the computer removes barriers that previously forced researchers to rely on costly foreign resources, offering new opportunities for local talent.
