PM Holds Budget 2027 Consultation Meeting With Chamber Of Commerce
Prime Minister Robert Abela held a consultation meeting with representatives of the Chamber of Commerce at Auberge de Castille as part of discussions ahead of Budget 2027.
During the meeting, Abela highlighted Malta’s economic performance, saying the country’s economy has remained resilient despite international challenges.
He referred to European Commission forecasts showing real economic growth of 4% in 2025, with growth expected to stand at 3.7% this year and 3.6% in 2027. He also noted that unemployment is expected to remain around 3%, while the services sector continues to play an important role in economic growth.
The Prime Minister said the Government views this economic performance as a foundation for further development rather than an end point. According to Abela, the next stage involves strengthening Malta’s economic model through greater sustainability, productivity, quality and added value.
He said this approach is aligned with Malta Vision 2050 and the Government’s electoral programme, while stressing the importance of continuing investment in digital transformation. Abela also referred to Malta’s national Artificial Intelligence strategy, first introduced in 2019, which is now being updated to reflect technological developments and support the competitiveness of businesses.
The Prime Minister reiterated the Government’s commitment towards upskilling and reskilling initiatives, while also highlighting the importance of maintaining stability in energy prices amid continued volatility in international energy markets.
The meeting also included discussions on proposals submitted by the Chamber of Commerce through its “Reset and Lead” document. The proposals include immediate measures for 2027 and longer-term recommendations focused on productivity, innovation, efficiency, added value and quality of life.
Abela was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg, Ministers Byron Camilleri, Miriam Dalli, Jo Etienne Abela, Chris Bonett and Keith Azzopardi Tanti, as well as Mark Mallia, Head of the Office of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
