Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced a €50,000 government donation to Puttinu Cares after the Good Friday Night Walk was cancelled due to bad weather.

In a statement, Abela said he was looking forward to joining the annual walk, which raises funds for Puttinu Cares. However, unsafe weather conditions, including strong winds and possible hail, forced organisers to cancel the event to protect participants and volunteers.

Despite the cancellation, the Prime Minister praised the generosity of the Maltese and Gozitan people, describing their solidarity as one that gives from the heart without expecting anything in return.

He confirmed that the government will contribute €50,000 from the Social Causes Fund to make up for the cancelled activity.

The annual Puttinu Cares telethon will still take place as planned tomorrow, starting at 9:15am across all local TV stations, with the public encouraged to continue supporting the cause.
