PM Abela’s Visit To Jordan Leads To New Cooperation Agreements

Malta and Jordan have signed a series of new agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation across key sectors, including tourism, education, culture, water, and energy.

The agreements were formalised during an official visit by Prime Minister Robert Abela to Amman, where he held talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II and Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan.
Speaking at the outset of the visit, Dr Abela described the occasion as a significant step in the “longstanding friendship” between the two countries. He highlighted the shared commitment to mutual respect and collaboration, noting that the new Framework Agreement for Cooperation would help align technical teams from both nations to identify and develop joint initiatives.
Among the agreements signed were the establishment of a Permanent Joint Economic Commission, a technical cooperation agreement on energy and water, and protocols on tourism and cultural collaboration including one focused on the Maltese language and archiving.

The Maltese Prime Minister also commended Jordan’s role in promoting regional peace and security. “Jordan has consistently demonstrated a firm commitment to peace, security, and regional cooperation,” he said, adding that Malta remains ready to support Jordan’s efforts in tackling humanitarian and development challenges across the Middle East.
