Playcon 2025 Launched as Malta Pushes Forward in Video Gaming and Esports Sector

Minister for the Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri, in collaboration with GamingMalta and GMR, officially launched Playcon 2025, Malta’s leading video game development and esports expo.
Now in its fifth edition, Playcon has grown into a vital platform connecting creators, publishers, tech innovators, investors, and students, while drawing global attention to Malta’s thriving gaming and esports sectors.
With over 25,000 attendees, 60+ exhibitors, and 24 million+ online impressions last year, Playcon continues to reinforce Malta’s digital economy through education, innovation, and talent development.
This year’s edition will also welcome two new gaming studios to Malta. Feenix, a studio focused on user-generated content and already collaborating with platforms like Roblox and Paddington Bear, plans to employ 30 professionals locally. Meanwhile, Hand Rock Studio, part of the UK’s Out of the Bit group, is opening Malta’s first-ever game development studio.
Minister Schembri praised Playcon’s impact, highlighting Malta’s growing role on the global stage through partnerships with Unity, Unreal Engine, and BLAST.
GamingMalta CEO Ivan Filletti added that Playcon is helping foster a vibrant local gaming community.
Playcon 2025 will be held from 8–12 October at the MFCC, featuring B2B summits, esports tournaments, exhibitions, and educational sessions. More details at www.playcon.mt.
