Planning Authority To Review Ta’ Qali Action Plan For Three Sites

The Planning Authority has been requested by the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment to carry out a partial review of the 2006 Ta’ Qali Action Plan, focusing on three areas: a site identified for a proposed family theme park, the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village and the Pitkalija site.

The review will identify a location for the proposed family theme park within the area indicated by the Minister and establish a site-specific policy outlining potential uses, limits on site coverage and building heights, as well as requirements for landscaping, access and parking.

Changes to permitted uses at the Ta’ Qali Crafts Village will also be considered as part of the review. The aim is to support the village’s development while maintaining its focus on local crafts.

Proposed changes include allowing businesses producing local craft food and beverages, an ancillary catering facility near the children’s playground, craft-related training facilities and an educational cinema.

The Pitkalija site will also be examined, with the proposed review dividing the land into a Food Hub Regeneration Area and an Area of Agricultural Value.

The food hub would include storage and distribution facilities, as well as fruit and vegetable processing and marketing facilities to support local producers. Around 6.77 hectares currently reserved for a Pitkalija extension would be redesignated as an Area of Agricultural Value.

The Planning Authority said the review will assess the proposals and prepare relevant policies and design parameters through the applicable planning process. The review itself does not grant development permission for any proposed uses.
