Planning Authority Suspends Board Meeting Over Legal Requirements

The Planning Authority has announced the suspension of the Planning Board meeting, a decision also confirmed by the Board’s Chairman, Dr Emanuel Camilleri.
The Authority stated that the suspension was necessary to ensure the process fully complies with legal requirements and that all stakeholders, including Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (ENGOs), are properly represented.
Although the appointment of Romano Cassar has been officially communicated, it has not yet been published in the Government Gazette. In the interest of transparency and fairness, the Board resolved to suspend the session until all representatives are duly confirmed.
It was noted that Mr Cassar was unable to attend the meeting or connect remotely.
The Authority also clarified that Mr Jorge Spiteri was removed from his position following disqualification under Article 63(4)(a), and that he no longer enjoys the majority support of ENGO representatives.
The official Facebook page, Planning Authority wrote, “The Board, which is duly constituted in accordance with the law to guarantee that Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations (ENGOs) have a sound voice in decision-making, decided to suspend today’s proceedings.”
