PL Says Only Guarantee Racetrack Will Be Complete: PN Says Government Betrayed Enthusiasts

The Labour Party said that a Labour Government “is the only guarantee for the completion of the Ħal Far racetrack project”, insisting it has a clear vision for the motorsport sector through a state of the art development designed to cater for drag racing, karting and circuit racing.

The Government said the Nationalist Opposition is attempting to politicise a project intended to benefit all motorsport enthusiasts, and argued that the Nationalist Party had 25 years in government to deliver such a facility but failed to prioritise the sector.

Labour highlighted that works currently underway include the construction of two new towers with modern amenities, the installation of impact barriers meeting standards set by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, and the complete resurfacing of the quarter mile track using post tensioned concrete technology.

Approximately 1,500 cubic metres of concrete will be used. The Government said it remains open to dialogue with stakeholders acting in good faith and has the credibility to deliver on its commitments.

The Nationalist Party, however, pointed to statements by Clint D’Amato, Secretary General of the Malta Drag Racing Association, who said that only around 40 per cent of the project has been completed despite a November 2025 deadline.

The Opposition said Labour’s promises “have remained on paper” and described the situation as “lots of promises, zero substance”, adding that Maltese motorsport deserves projects delivered with seriousness and transparency.
