PL Proposes Higher Tax Thresholds for Part-Time and Self-Employed Workers

Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced a proposal to widen tax benefits for part-time and self-employed workers, during a mass rally in Valletta.
The measure would see the current 10 per cent tax rate for part-time employees applied to a larger portion of their income.
At present, the rate applies to the first €10,000 earned annually, but under the proposal this threshold would increase to €15,000.
Self-employed individuals working part-time would also benefit from a significant extension. Their current threshold of €12,000 would rise to €20,000 per year, allowing more income to be taxed at the reduced rate.
The proposal is aimed at increasing disposable income and incentivising flexible work arrangements.
Dr Abela presented the plan as part of broader efforts to support workers and adapt the tax system to modern employment patterns, particularly for those balancing multiple income streams or opting for part-time work.
