PL Proposes Full Pension Increase Parity For Former Disciplined Forces Members
Local

Prime Minister Robert Abela has unveiled a new proposal aimed at improving pension conditions for former members of Malta’s disciplined forces, during a mass rally in Valletta.

Building on measures introduced in the current legislature, which granted annual cost-of-living increases to retired disciplined corps members who are no longer employed, the Prime Minister announced a further step to expand these benefits. Under the proposed plan for the next legislature, all former members of the disciplined forces would receive an increase equivalent to the full rise applied to pensions.

The proposal signals a shift towards broader financial support, ensuring that all retirees from the sector benefit equally from pension adjustments, regardless of their employment status after retirement.

Dr Abela framed the measure as part of a wider commitment to strengthen social support systems and recognise the contribution of disciplined forces personnel, with the change expected to come into effect in the next legislative term.
