The Labour Party has unveiled a new housing proposal aimed at helping families upgrade to larger homes, as part of its programme ahead of the upcoming general election on the 30th of May.

The measure targets families with more than one child, who wish to move from their first property to a bigger residence.

While acknowledging that many first homes have increased in value, the party is proposing to extend first-time buyer incentives to these families when they sell their current home and purchase a larger one.

Under the scheme, eligible buyers will benefit from reduced stamp duty and additional incentives, including those linked to properties in Urban Conservation Areas.

Financial support could reach up to €25,700 for those buying in Malta.

The proposal forms part of a broader package to strengthen existing first-time buyer schemes and improve housing accessibility.
