Labour has announced plans to introduce free fertility testing for men and women aged between 18 and 25, as part of a wider package of reproductive health proposals aimed at helping people make informed decisions about their future.

Under the proposal, young adults would receive medical assessments and professional guidance on lifestyle changes that could improve their chances of becoming parents later in life.

The proposal comes amid ongoing national discussion about demographic challenges and family planning due to a low national birth rate.

The party also pledged to strengthen Malta’s IVF framework by increasing the number of free IVF cycles from three to five, widening access to treatment for couples facing fertility difficulties.

In addition, Labour plans to introduce free genetic testing for couples wishing to assess their genetic compatibility before having children, as part of a broader strategy focused on prevention, accessibility and reproductive health support.
