People Using Emergency Room Unnecessarily: Empty During Storm
Local

In a post shared to social media, Nurse Vanessa Mifsud shared two photos of an empty emergency room during Storm Harry, highlighting how people use the emergency system unnecessarily.

‘And this doesn't only happen during a storm like this. It 'coincidently' happens during important football games, festivals, feasts and other important occasions where many Maltese attend’, wrote Vanessa.

‘And not to mention Covid times’, added the nurse. ‘Were there people who still chose to stay at home when they actually really needed to come to hospital? Unfortunately yes. And some consequences were fatal. But the reason was mainly because of the mentality/brainwashing at the time that if you go to hospital you will surely contract covid.’

‘Please lets be vigilant when using the services. It will still waste your time to go to the emergency room because you will be put on a priority list which means that non emergencies will be seen after.. hence, the more emergency cases that come in, the more your case will be pushed back. And then you wonder why you wait for hours upon end to be seen.’

Vanessa urged people to remember that hospital staff are not robots but human beings trying to do their job properly. People were also urged to focus on the real life threatening cases, with a list provided indicating when emergency treatment might be necessary.

‘And let us breathe every now and then.’
