Party Vessel Reported By Rangers For Noise Pollution In Protected Area
Local

The Malta Ranger Unit have reported a party vessel after it was caught polluting a silent bay near a protected area.

‘Yesterday late evening, a commercial party vessel entered a bay near the Selmun with excessive volume’, the rangers said.

‘The sound could be heard by our Rangers beyond St Paul's island, where the protected area is for the Shearwater (Garnija).’

‘Although outside of the protected area, the Notice to Mariners 115 of 2025 is very clear. Commercial vessels can't have the volume at such level that they are causing nuisance.’

After being contacted by Transport Malta, the vessel left the area afterwards the rangers explained.

‘We once again wish to highlight the issue of no maritime enforcement patrols during late evenings’, they added. ‘To prevent and deter abuse of the maritime laws, we need efficient enforcement. We need Officers out at sea issuing on-the-spot fines to offenders.’
