On Worker’s Day, Partit Momentum announced a new set of labour-focused proposals as part of its electoral programme, pledging major reforms aimed at improving workers’ living standards and addressing inequality in Malta’s economy.

The party said that while Malta has several thriving sectors, the current economic model continues to favour developers, leaving many workers behind. It argued that prosperity must be shared more fairly with those who contribute to building the economy.

Speaking on the occasion, candidate Mark Camilleri Gambin, who is contesting the 3rd and 11th districts, said that 95,000 people in Malta are still at risk of poverty. He said this situation is the result of decisions taken, and not taken, by the two main political parties over decades.

A key proposal is a significant increase in the minimum wage, with Momentum suggesting a rise from €221.78 per week to €360 per week, which it says is based on estimates of a decent living wage.

Other measures include ending pay disparities between agency and public sector workers doing the same jobs, strengthening flexible working arrangements, improving parental leave, and reinforcing enforcement within the Department for Industrial and Employment Relations (DIER).

Momentum said workers deserve real action rather than repeated promises, describing its proposals as a “Bidla ta’ Vera” ahead of the general election.
