Initial works to make parts of White Rocks safe and accessible to the public have been completed, with the site now partially reopened following a large-scale clean-up and safety intervention led by Project Green.

The announcement was made by Minister for the Environment and Energy Miriam Dalli together with Project Green officials, who also presented the results of the Shape Your Space public consultation concerning the future of White Rocks, Manoel Island and Fort Campbell.

The consultation, carried out between December and April through the ParksinMalta.mt platform, received more than 6,000 submissions. Around 100 workshops and focus groups were also organised with residents, students, families, elderly people, Local Councils and NGOs, involving a further 6,000 participants.

Minister Miriam Dalli said the consultation provided clear guidance on what communities expect from public open spaces. She stated that the government’s approach is centred on ensuring public land is accessible and used for the benefit of the community.

As part of the first phase of works at White Rocks, more than 22,000 tonnes of construction waste and dangerous structures were removed from the area. Safety measures including fencing, signage and picnic benches were also installed to allow safer public access.

Project Green said the reopening of the site will allow people to reconnect with the area and begin envisioning its future regeneration. Activities at White Rocks are also planned, including the Spring Festival scheduled for 16 and 17 May.

The long-term regeneration plans are being developed together with international firm Chapman Taylor following feedback gathered during the consultation process.
