Pastizzi have officially made it into the Oxford English Dictionary!
The renowned Dictionary has added the iconic Maltese pastry to their entries as they update for 2026.
‘In Maltese cookery: a savoury pastry typically filled with ricotta or curried peas’, the pastry is defined as.
‘In plural form pastizzi after the Maltese plural form. Use of this form as a singular in English reflects a misapprehension of the Maltese plural form.’
