Over €770,000 To Refurbish 11 Housing Apartment Blocks In Ta’ Xbiex

An investment of more than €760,000 is being made to refurbish 11 Housing apartment blocks in Ta' Xbiex, with works set to benefit 91 families living in the area.
Minister for Housing and Lands Owen Bonnici announced that €762,021 has been allocated to the project during a site visit, explaining that the initiative forms part of the Government's ongoing commitment to improving Housing Estates across Malta.
The refurbishment works began in February and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Bonnici said the investment is aimed at improving residents' quality of life while ensuring Housing buildings remain safe, well maintained and fit for purpose.
He added that the project will enhance the appearance of the estate while creating a more sustainable and secure environment for families.
The refurbishment programme includes extensive works to the façades, roofs and communal areas of the residential blocks.
Planned improvements include cleaning and repointing stone façades, repairing cracks and balconies, replastering and repainting, and installing vent covers.
Roof works involve waterproofing, maintenance of parapet walls and stairwells, reorganisation of water tanks and pipework, and the removal of asbestos where necessary.
Communal areas will also undergo significant upgrades, including repairs to lighting systems, the installation of new intercoms where required, replacement of wooden meter cupboards with aluminium units, repainting of internal walls, ceilings and stair railings, repairs to tiled and marble surfaces, and the replacement of communal doors and windows.
Also attending the visit were Permanent Secretary Ramon Deguara, Housing Projects Solutions Chief Executive Marisa Marmara, Housing Authority Chairman Robert Ducker, and Ta' Xbiex Local Council Executive Secretary Simeon Nechev.
