An investment of more than €3 million has been announced for a range of projects to be implemented by local councils across Malta and Gozo. The announcement was made by the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government, Alison Zerafa Civelli, together with the Director General for Local Government, Emile Vassallo.

These projects aim to further strengthen the quality of life and wellbeing of local communities. In recent years, this scheme has been extended to all local councils across Malta and Gozo, allowing councils themselves to propose initiatives that directly address the needs of residents within their respective localities.

The allocation for this year amounts to almost €3.2 million. Through this funding, councils will implement projects that align with the objectives of the scheme, including social sustainability, accessibility and inclusion, as well as increased investment in air quality and environmental sustainability.

Parliamentary Secretary Alison Zerafa Civelli said that the submitted projects prioritise the physical and mental health of residents and place strong emphasis on open spaces. She explained that local government plays a key role in improving quality of life by providing essential services and infrastructure that enhance the living environment within communities.

She added that the scheme continues to support local councils in fulfilling their mission to provide a better quality of life for residents, while contributing to the goals of Vision Malta 2050. Particular importance is being given to open spaces and recreational facilities for Maltese and Gozitan families.

The Parliamentary Secretary concluded by noting that the record allocation reflects the government’s commitment to making a tangible difference in communities. She also thanked local council employees for their work during recent severe weather, highlighting the important role councils play in society.
