Over €26 Million In benefits For Over 61,000 Families By End Of Week

More than €26 million in benefits will be distributed to 61,200 families by the end of the week, following the introduction of the first six measures from a total of 53 planned under the 2026 Budget.
These initial measures support families with children under sixteen, foster families, and couples or single individuals on low incomes.
Announcing the development, Social Policy and Children’s Rights Minister Michael Falzon explained that the payments are being issued in advance, continuing a practice that has been in place for twelve years, and will cover the first quarter of 2026.

He highlighted that investment in the Children’s Allowance has doubled over the past decade in order to strengthen support for families and help children reach their full potential.
The allowance remains the largest area of investment, benefiting 42,000 families with more than 62,000 children.
The enhanced Children’s Allowance will be most beneficial for lower and middle income households, with the income threshold for higher rates raised to €30,000. Families earning more than this amount will still receive the allowance and will also gain from wider tax reductions for families with children.
Further improvements include a €520 yearly increase for foster carers and an additional €35 per week for children with disabilities. The Supplementary Allowance for low income households has also been expanded, reaching more than 19,000 beneficiaries, and its associated annual grant has risen from €100 to €250.
