During 2025, the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools implemented a series of projects aimed at improving sports and recreational spaces across a number of schools.

The works focused on enhancing outdoor environments through general maintenance and the installation of new artificial turf, creating safer and more suitable spaces for students to enjoy physical activity.

The projects were delivered through an overall investment of approximately €1.34 million.

The two largest initiatives were carried out at seven grounds within Gozo College Primary and Middle Schools, with a combined investment of almost €800,000, and at St George Preca College Secondary School and Lyceum in Ħamrun, where more than €200,000 was invested.

In both cases, existing grounds were upgraded and resurfaced with artificial turf to improve durability and usability.

Speaking during the inauguration of the new ground at the Ħamrun Lyceum, the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Clifton Grima, highlighted the importance being placed on schools throughout the country.

He explained that investment is not limited to infrastructure alone, but also includes the upgrading of sports and recreational spaces that play a key role in students’ development.

Minister Grima noted that student wellbeing is a central priority within the National Education Strategy 2024 to 2030. Alongside national investment in sport, schools and educational institutions are being supported to provide environments that encourage physical activity and recreation.
