Over a Thousand Older Adults Unite For A Week Of Sporting Activities

As part of Malta’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that ageing remains active, healthy, and engaging, this year’s edition of Sports Day has been launched. The event, organised by Active Ageing and Community Care (AACC), took place over five consecutive days at the University of Malta Pavilion.

The initiative brought together around one thousand older adults from care homes and Active Ageing Centres, in an activity designed to encourage movement, friendship, and physical wellbeing in a safe environment. This year, to ensure more individual attention for each participant, the programme was spread across several days.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing, Malcolm Paul Agius Galea, accompanied by Permanent Secretary Renzo Degabriele, visited the participants, engaging in conversations and thanking them for their sporting spirit. “Movement and participation have no age limit. This event is a testament to the energy, enthusiasm, and care that our older citizens devote to respecting their bodies, nurturing friendships, and embracing an active life at every stage,” said Dr Agius Galea. “We will continue working to provide more opportunities like this, which strengthen both the physical and mental wellbeing of our seniors.”
