Over 80 Recruits Join AFM This January

The Armed Forces of Malta have recorded a strong start to the year, with a significant number of new recruits joining the force during the January recruitment intake.
A total of 84 recruits, including 9 women, have chosen to embark on a military career and have begun an intensive five-month training programme in preparation for service to the Maltese and Gozitan communities.
This figure marks an increase when compared to the previous year, during which 73 recruits successfully completed their training, ten of whom were women.
Byron Camilleri, Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment, visited the recruits during their training sessions, where he met with them and observed the discipline and commitment being instilled throughout the programme.
Training covers a wide range of essential skills, including physical fitness, weapons handling, military knowledge, first aid, map reading, radio communication and field conduct.
The Minister expressed satisfaction at the growing interest in a military career, noting that improved working conditions and the strongest collective agreement to date have made the Armed Forces an increasingly attractive option.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to supporting recruits by ensuring they have the necessary resources, training opportunities and conditions to succeed both professionally and personally.
