Over 700 Animals Rescued Or Collected By Animal Welfare Directorate In First Half Of 2026

A total of 708 animals were rescued or collected by Malta’s Animal Welfare Directorate between January and June 2026, according to information tabled in Parliament.

The figures were revealed by Energy, Environment and Regeneration of the Grand Harbour Minister Miriam Dalli in response to a Parliamentary Question by PN MP and veterinarian Dr Andrew Agius.

According to Dalli, the animals included 470 cats, 187 dogs and a further 51 animals from other species.

The figures cover the first six months of 2026 and provide a breakdown of the animals handled by the Directorate during the period.

The Animal Welfare Directorate is taken charge of by Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Alicia Bugeja Said under the Miriam Dalli’s Ministry.

The information was provided as part of a recent Parliamentary Questions session.
