OVER 7 MILLION KILOGRAMS OF WASTE REMOVED AS WHITE ROCKS GETS READY FOR NATIONAL PARK

Minister for Environment, Energy and Enterprise Miriam Dalli, Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield, and the team from Project Green, together with CMD Director General Ramon Deguara, visited the White Rocks site to observe ongoing cleaning, pruning, and waste removal works.
During the visit, it was revealed that over 7 million kilograms of waste have already been collected from the area through 225 truck trips, part of the Government’s efforts to prepare the site for the future national park. Much of the waste removed consisted of construction debris and other discarded materials that had accumulated over the years.
Minister Dalli highlighted the importance of the work, stating that after the decision to transform White Rocks into a national park, hazardous areas were closed off and extensive waste collection began, uncovering spaces that were previously hidden beneath years of discarded materials.
Parliamentary Secretary Glenn Bedingfield emphasised that the clean-up is only the first step in regenerating the site. “A lot of work has been done, and there is still much more to be done because this is one of the projects that, as a Government, we are looking forward to completing,” he said.
The clean-up and preparation works will continue in the coming months, with Project Green and the Cleansing and Maintenance Division collaborating to transform White Rocks into a new national park for public use.
