Over 6,500 Foreigners Returned To Their Country In Past 10 Years

According to information tabled in parliament by Minister Byron Camilleri, there were over 6,500 foreigners who were returned to their country in the past 10 years.

In 2025, up until the 10th of October, there were 1,248 returns, with 446 being forced returns. 18 were assisted voluntary returns.

Last year, there were a total of 1,429 total returns, with 457 being forced returns and 35 being assisted voluntary returns.

The Minister said that, with regard to Return orders for immigrants from third countries to other European states, in 2020 an amendment enabled the Police to better enforce the returns.

‘Prior to 2020, these individuals could not be detained by the Police until the return was carried out, which had resulted in limited cooperation with the authorities.’
