Over 539,000 Tourists Visited Malta In August 2026

Malta welcomed an estimated 539,655 inbound tourists in August 2026, marking a 14.7% increase compared with the same month last year, according to figures from the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The majority of visitors travelled to Malta for holiday purposes, with 515,676 tourists visiting for leisure, while 10,484 travelled for business reasons.
The largest share of visitors were aged between 25 and 44, accounting for 36.6% of total tourists, followed by those aged between 0 and 24 at 34.7%.
British, Italian and Polish residents represented 46.5% of all inbound tourists during the month. Total nights spent by visitors reached 3.8 million, an increase of 9.9% compared with August 2025, with rented accommodation establishments accounting for 86.7% of all guest nights. The average length of stay stood at seven nights.
Tourist expenditure during August reached €629.3 million, up by 14.9% compared with the same month in 2025. Average expenditure per night was estimated at €165.5.
During the month, 356,101 tourists visited Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight visitors, representing 66% of total tourists.
Between January and August 2026, Malta recorded 3,160,974 inbound tourists, an increase of 17.9% over the same period last year.
Total nights spent rose by 10.9% to 18.7 million, while tourist expenditure increased by 15.6% to €2.96 billion. Expenditure per capita stood at €937 during this period, compared with €956 in 2025.
