Over 37,000 People Left At Least One Job In First 6 Months Of 2026

According to information tabled in Parliament, 37,214 people had at least one employment termination during the first six months of 2026.
The figures show that 41,068 employment termination forms were submitted by the end of June, although the total is higher than the number of individuals affected because a person may have more than one employment termination in the same year.
Of those whose employment ended during the first half of 2026, 20,317 had already returned to active employment by the end of June. The remaining 16,897 were no longer active in the labour market.
In 2025, a total of 80,603 people experienced at least one employment termination, with 96,586 termination forms submitted during the year.
By the end of 2025, 48,350 of those individuals had returned to active employment, while 32,253 were no longer active in the labour market.
The highest figures were recorded in 2024, when 87,270 people experienced at least one employment termination. A total of 104,299 termination forms were submitted that year, again reflecting the fact that some individuals had more than one employment termination.
By the end of 2024, 50,262 people had returned to active employment, while 37,008 remained outside the labour market.
The figures suggest a downward trend in employment terminations over the past three years.
The number of people experiencing at least one employment termination fell from 87,270 in 2024 to 80,603 in 2025, while 37,214 people had experienced at least one employment termination by the end of June 2026.
