A recent study published by Eurostat has revealed that over 35% of managerial positions in Malta were held by women in 2024, marking a significant rise from the 25% recorded a decade earlier in 2014.

The new figures bring Malta in line with the European Union average of 35.2%, placing the country alongside nations such as Finland, Austria, Luxembourg, and Portugal in terms of female representation in management roles.

According to the study, Sweden leads the ranking, with women holding over 40% of managerial posts. It is followed by Latvia, Poland, and Hungary, all of which recorded strong female representation in leadership positions.

At the other end of the scale, Cyprus registered the lowest proportion, with around 25% of managerial roles occupied by women. It is followed by Croatia, Italy, Denmark, and Czechia.

The findings highlight Malta’s steady progress over the past decade, reflecting gradual improvements in gender representation within leadership and decision-making roles across the workforce.
