Over 301,000 Passengers Travelled Between Malta & Gozo During Holidays

A record number of passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the Christmas period, with a total of 301,041 people crossing the channel using the Gozo Channel and Fast Ferry services.
The Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri, said the figures confirmed that Gozo had once again become the natural choice for thousands of Maltese residents and tourists seeking a short break as the year came to an end.
He noted that this outcome reflected the goals of the Gozo, an Island of Villages strategy.
Between Monday 22 December 2025 and Sunday 4 January 2026, 258,710 passengers used the Gozo Channel ferry service in both directions.
This represented an increase of 6.7% compared with the same festive period the previous year.
Meanwhile, Gozo Highspeed, which operates the Fast Ferry service between the Grand Harbour and Mġarr, carried 42,331 passengers over the same dates, an increase of 29.05% on the 2024 to 2025 period.
In total, passenger crossings during the Christmas holidays of 2025 to 2026 rose by 9.3% year on year. When compared with the 2012 to 2013 festive period, the increase reached a record 133%.
