Over 300 People From 38 Nationalities Graduate From “I Belong” Integration Programme

The achievements of 306 participants from 38 different nationalities were celebrated during a graduation ceremony marking the successful completion of the second stage of the national integration programme “I Belong”.

Organised by the Human Rights Directorate and MCAST, the programme aims to support integration by providing participants with the knowledge and skills needed to actively participate in Maltese society.

Through cultural orientation and language learning, “I Belong” helps participants better understand the local context while promoting inclusion, mutual respect and social cohesion among people from diverse backgrounds.

Minister for Equality and Civil Rights Rosianne Cutajar congratulated the graduates for their dedication and commitment throughout the programme.

She said integration goes beyond learning a language or gaining cultural knowledge, as it enables individuals to participate fully in society, access opportunities and develop a stronger sense of belonging within the community.

The Minister described “I Belong” as an important pillar of Malta’s integration policy, contributing towards greater understanding and cooperation between different communities.

She noted that successful integration benefits both migrants and Maltese society, adding that it requires the involvement of educational institutions, employers, civil society organisations, local communities and citizens.

Christie Spiteri, Assistant Director within the Human Rights Directorate, said the graduation ceremony highlighted the importance of cooperation between institutions and stakeholders in promoting human rights, equality and social cohesion.

She explained that initiatives such as this encourage dialogue, increase awareness of challenges and support the creation of more inclusive policies that respect diversity.

Two participants also addressed those present during the ceremony in the Maltese language.
