Over 3 Million Tourists Visited Malta In 2025: Gozo & Comino Attracted Over 94,000

Tourism data for 2025 shows that visitors continued to choose Malta, Gozo and Comino through different travel patterns, including single centre holidays focused on one region and twin centre trips combining both areas.

The figures show strong increases in visitor numbers, nights spent and tourism expenditure across all categories, with Malta remaining the main destination for international travellers while Gozo and Comino continued to attract visitors seeking longer stays and a different experience.

Single centre trips to the Malta region accounted for 3,830,289 inbound tourists during 2025. The largest share of visitors were aged between 25 and 44, representing 35.5% of arrivals, while 65.7% came from European Union Member States.

Italy was the strongest individual market, accounting for 14.8% of tourists. Low-cost airlines were used by 68.7% of visitors, while 79.5% were first-time tourists.

The majority of visitors stayed in collective accommodation, which accounted for 62% of stays. Nights spent by inbound tourists exceeded 23.7 million, an increase of 11.4% compared with 2024. Total expenditure reached almost €3.7 billion, representing an 18.9% increase compared with the previous year.

Single centre visits to Gozo and Comino reached 94,578 tourists, an increase of 6.4% compared with 2024. Most visitors came from EU Member States, accounting for 54% of arrivals, although the United Kingdom was the strongest individual market at 31%.

The largest proportion of tourists were aged between 45 and 64, representing 38.7% of visitors. Non-package trips accounted for 84.4% of visits, while 62.3% of tourists travelled by low-cost airlines.

Other rented accommodation was the most common choice, accounting for 44% of stays. Total nights spent reached 807,511, while the average length of stay increased from 8.3 nights to 8.5 nights.

Expenditure reached almost €101 million, an increase of 13.9% compared with 2024.

Twin centre trips covering both Malta and Gozo and Comino attracted 97,443 tourists in 2025. Visitors aged between 25 and 44 formed the largest group, accounting for 36.9% of arrivals.

Most twin centre tourists were first-time visitors, at 78.2%, and 65.6% came from EU Member States. France was the strongest market at 13%, while the United Kingdom accounted for 17.2% of visitors.

Total nights spent increased to 908,784, with average stays reaching 9.3 nights. Expenditure by twin centre tourists was estimated at €120 million, with all expenditure categories recording increases compared with the previous year.
