OVER 270 ROAD CHECKS CARRIED OUT ACROSS MALTA AND GOZO IN DECEMBER
Local

Routine traffic inspections have continued in recent weeks across various roads in Malta and Gozo, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance road safety. These checks are carried out regularly at all times of the day, both during daylight hours and at night, reflecting the Police Force’s continued commitment to safeguarding everyone who uses the country’s roads, including drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

During these inspections, the vast majority of motorists were found to be complying with traffic regulations. However, where breaches were identified, immediate action was taken and the necessary fines were issued.

Between 1 and 30 December, a total of 271 road checks were conducted, during which 7,932 vehicles were stopped. As a result, 513 fines were issued and around 123 charges were brought, while four individuals tested positive for driving under the influence of alcohol.

In two separate inspections, police also arrested two individuals. In one case, officers observed a vehicle failing to stop when instructed and being driven in a dangerous manner. The driver later abandoned the vehicle at the side of the road and was subsequently arrested. He was arraigned in court, where he admitted to the charges, with sentencing to be delivered at a later stage.

In another case, a driver was caught driving without a licence on two separate occasions on the same day. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.
