Band club membership across Malta and Gozo increased by 4.8% in 2025, with 91 clubs reporting a total of 26,683 members, according to new statistics.

This represents an increase of 1,212 members compared with 2024.

The figures show that band clubs continued to attract participation across various categories, with 2,038 resident band players and 2,040 trainee band players recorded during the year.

Committee members accounted for 1,085 people, while ordinary members remained the largest category with 21,520 individuals.

Women represented almost one-third of total band club membership in both 2024 and 2025. Female participation was highest among trainee band players, accounting for 38.5% in 2025, while the lowest representation was recorded among committee members, where women made up 13.7%.

Participation in musical activities also continued to grow. The number of resident band players increased by 6.3% compared with 2024, while trainee band players rose by 8.7%.

The South Eastern district recorded the highest number of both resident and trainee band players, accounting for 21.6% and 39.5% respectively of the national totals.

The number of qualified music instructors also increased, rising from 386 in 2024 to 417 in 2025, an 8.0% increase.

Band clubs organised more than 1,300 performances during the year, with almost one-third held outside their locality or abroad.

Volunteers remained essential to band club activities, with regular volunteers increasing by 4.8% and period-specific volunteers rising by 5.9%. Music tuition continued to be provided to students of all ages, with those aged 10 to 17 making up 38.0% of all students receiving lessons.

Band clubs reported current expenditure of more than €9.2 million and income of €11.8 million in 2025.
