Over 238,000 Emergency Calls On 112 Between June & December 2025

According to information tabled in parliament, over 238,000 calls to the 112 Emergency number were made between June and December 2025.

In December 2025, there were a total of 27,698 calls to the 112 emergency number. Of these, 6,944 were directed to the Emergency Department (Ambulances), whereas 671 were directed to Civil Protection.

583 were directed to the Malta Police Force and 11 were directed to the Armed Forces of Malta.

In May of last year, Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela introduced the 1400 helpline, which would allow medical professionals to direct patients who require medical assistance, but are not in life threatening condition, to private clinics or hospitals.

The service, offered for free, aims to reduce waiting times at Mater Dei’s Emergency Department to ensure timely medial care for anyone in need.
