Over 234,000 People Use Malta Public Transport Every Day

According to information tabled in parliament by Minister for Sustainable Transport Chris Bonett, an average of 234,673 people used Malta Public Transport between January and June of 2026 every day.
This statistic, concerning the first six months of this year, is already significantly higher than the totality of 2025, which registered an average of 227,245 every day.
The numbers show an ongoing increase year by year, with 2024 seeing 207,598 daily bus users, and 2023 seeing 184,224.
The numbers dropped between 2019 and 2020, the years of the pandemic, from 157,286 to 92,539, but then picked up again to the current numbers.
