Over 200 Children Adopted From Other Countries By Maltese Between 2015 & 2026

According to new information tabled in parliament, a total of 222 children were adopted by Maltese parents between 2015 and 2026.
The highest amount of adoptions were recorded from India, with 168 children being adopted between 2016 and 2026 (no children were reportedly adopted in 2015).
A total of 29 children were adopted from Portugal, with Slovakia, Russia and Bulgaria all registering a total of 7 children within this time frame.
The Ministry for Social Policy and the Family explained that there could be statistical discrepancy when it comes to adoptions before 2022 due to a lack of information. Statistics were more rigorously kept as of 2022.
