Over 18,000 Students To Benefit From Scholarships & Grants

Applications have opened for scholarships and grants for students continuing their education at post-secondary, vocational and tertiary levels, with more than 18,000 students expected to benefit during the 2026/2027 academic year.

Minister for Education and Sport Byron Camilleri said the Government is investing more than €40 million every year in direct financial support for students. He added that the number of students qualifying for these schemes has increased by around 300 annually.

“More than 18,000 students are expected to benefit from this support this year. For us, this is not only an investment of more than €40 million, but a direct investment in our young people and their future,” Camilleri said.

During the 2025/2026 academic year, more than 16,600 students benefited from scholarships and grants. Since January, stipends have increased by 15%, alongside the cost of living adjustment, which will continue to be paid to eligible students throughout the new academic year.

Students can benefit from different stipend levels, including general, prescribed and higher priority rates. Additional support includes annual grants, one-time grants at the beginning of tertiary courses, supplementary stipends for students facing difficult circumstances, grants for single parents and the Top Up Stipend for courses that include apprenticeships.

Other schemes include the Free Internet Voucher, Teaching Practice Grant and summer placement payments for health students.

Applications can be submitted online through e-ID. Students are encouraged to apply between October and the end of December to receive support as early as possible. Those applying from January 2027 onwards will receive the stipend and grants due from the date of submission.
