The Government has highlighted continued investment in young people, skills and employment opportunities during a conference focused on the Youth Guarantee and Training for Employment projects.

Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Employment Jonathan Attard said that as the labour market continues to change, it is important to create opportunities that help young people enter employment while allowing workers to continue developing their skills.

He said that more than 15,000 people have already benefited from training, skills development and work experience opportunities in recent years, adding that the aim is to continue expanding access to programmes that help people progress in their careers and adapt to changing labour market needs.

Minister Attard also highlighted the role of Jobsplus as Malta’s Public Employment Service, connecting jobseekers, workers, employers and training opportunities.

The two projects represent a combined investment of €22 million. The Youth Guarantee project, supported by more than €10 million and running until the end of 2028, focuses on young people aged between 15 and 29, offering personalised support and assistance in the transition to education, training or employment. Measures include Free SEC Revision Classes, Empower Youth and ALMA.

The Training for Employment project, with an investment of €12 million and running until December 2029, focuses on workplace experience, training, upskilling and reskilling through initiatives including Work Exposure, Traineeships and MySkills.

Minister for European Funds, Social Dialogue and Consumer Protection Keith Azzopardi Tanti said European funds should deliver tangible benefits by helping people strengthen their skills and improve employment opportunities.

Previous programmes have supported thousands of participants. Between 2015 and 2023, more than 6,000 young people took part in the Youth Guarantee, with 88% obtaining a qualification, certification or entering employment. Meanwhile, the previous Training for Employment project supported 9,045 people between 2016 and 2023, with 89% obtaining a qualification or certification.
