Over 10,000 Hours At Sea Carried Out By Malta’s AFM Maritime Squadron In 2025

The Armed Forces of Malta’s Maritime Squadron carried out more than 10,000 hours of operations at sea throughout 2025, including hundreds of patrols, inspections, law enforcement operations and assistance missions.

The figures were revealed during a visit by Home Affairs and Security Minister Glenn Bedingfield to the squadron’s base at Hay Wharf, Floriana, where he met officers and service members and was briefed on its operations and capabilities.

During the visit, Bedingfield toured the P61 patrol vessel, which plays a key role in monitoring Maltese waters, search and rescue operations and maritime security. He also visited the squadron’s technical workshops, where staff maintain and support the fleet.

The Maritime Squadron is responsible for protecting Malta’s territorial waters, combating smuggling and trafficking, supporting search and rescue operations and assisting the Police Force and other authorities.

Bedingfield thanked personnel for their dedication and professionalism, pledging continued investment in the AFM.
