Our Country Continues Moving Towards Quality Tourism – Prime Minister Inaugurates The Verdala Wellness Hotel AX Privilege

During the inauguration of the Verdala Wellness Hotel AX Privilege in Rabat, Malta, Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasised that the country is steadily consolidating a tourism product that enables Malta to continue moving toward a model focused on quality.
Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg, Prime Minister Abela highlighted that this inauguration comes at a time when Malta’s tourism sector is demonstrating sustainable growth. He noted that the country is not only registering strong results during the summer months but is also achieving positive performance throughout the rest of the year.

The Prime Minister explained that by the end of September, Malta experienced a 12% increase in tourist arrivals compared to the same period last year. More importantly, he added, tourist expenditure during the first nine months of the year reached €3 billion, representing an almost 20% rise over the previous year.
Prime Minister Abela also underlined the encouraging prospects for the years ahead, supported by strengthened connectivity and new routes, including direct flights from the United States starting next year. This expansion in connectivity, he said, allows Malta to tap into new markets and attract higher-quality tourists, further reinforcing the country’s position as a leading Mediterranean destination.
He reiterated that the Government is driving a strategy focused on quality over quantity in tourism. This approach forms part of Vision Malta 2050, which aims for sustainable growth and a tourism model that contributes more robustly to the economy and to an increasingly better quality of life for the Maltese and Gozitans.
