One-Year-Old Girl At Risk Of Dying After Wandering Into Sea Alone

A one-year-and-seven-month-old girl from Ħaż-Żabbar is in a serious condition after getting into difficulty in the sea at Marsaxlokk on Saturday night.

Police said they were informed at around 10.30pm that their assistance was needed in the area of Il-Magħluq Bay.

Preliminary information indicates that the toddler wandered away from family members and entered the sea on her own for a short time.

She is believed to have swallowed water, leaving her struggling to breathe before relatives quickly came to her aid.

Police officers and a medical team arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, where the child was already being assisted by family members.

The toddler was taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital for further treatment, where she was later certified as being in a serious condition.
