One Week To Budget Day: What Can Maltese Families Expect?

With just one week to go until Budget Day, attention is turning to Finance Minister Clyde Caruana and the measures the Government will unveil for 2027.
After 13 years of Labour governments, the Finance Minister has, for the first time, stopped short of committing to a budget without tax increases. This marks a notable shift ahead of the announcement, leaving households and businesses wondering whether new taxes could be on the table.
The Budget comes at a time of growing geopolitical uncertainty, with international conflicts, fluctuating energy prices and wider economic pressures creating challenges for governments and businesses across Europe.
Locally, the cost of living, wages, pensions and housing affordability remain key concerns. Families will be looking for measures that provide meaningful financial relief, while businesses will be hoping for continued support amid an uncertain international outlook.
Quality of life is also expected to feature prominently, with traffic congestion, the environment, healthcare and public spaces among the issues affecting people’s everyday lives. Beyond economic growth, many will be looking for a Budget that delivers tangible improvements to their daily lives.
With only seven days remaining, the big question is whether Budget 2027 will strike the right balance between economic stability, support for families and investment in Malta’s future.
What would you like to see addressed in this year’s Budget?
