One Week Later Car Remains Lodged in Ħ'Attard Building As Collapse Fears Delay Removal

A full week after a car crashed into an abandoned building in Ħ'Attard, the vehicle remains lodged inside the structure amid growing concerns that removing it could trigger a partial or complete collapse of the building, and potentially endanger neighbouring properties.
The incident occurred at around 3:30am last week in Triq il-Kbira, when a Kia Picanto slammed into the abandoned building. Police, who were called to the scene immediately, found two minors inside the vehicle a 16-year-old and a 13-year-old.
A medical team provided first aid at the scene before both were transported to Mater Dei Hospital. The 16-year-old sustained light injuries, while the 13-year-old suffered grievous injuries.
One week on, the crashed vehicle has yet to be removed, with sources indicating that structural engineers are exercising extreme caution. The impact is believed to have compromised key sections of the abandoned building, raising fears that extracting the car could destabilise the structure further.
There are also concerns that any collapse could affect adjacent buildings, prompting authorities to prioritise public safety before any recovery operation is carried out. The site remains under close monitoring while experts continue assessing the safest method of removing the vehicle without causing further damage.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are still ongoing.
