Omar Rababah: "Mosque Application in Luqa Withdrawn After Working In Silence"

Labour Party candidate Omar Rababah, who is contesting the 6th and 7th Districts, has stated that an application for a proposed mosque in Ħal Luqa has now been officially withdrawn following strong opposition and concerns expressed by residents.

In a strongly worded statement, Rababah said that over recent weeks he had been the target of what he described as a campaign of “demonisation” and political attacks, despite repeatedly insisting that he was never involved in any Planning Authority application connected to the proposed development.

According to Rababah, rather than responding publicly to criticism and insults, he chose to work “in silence” behind the scenes to find a practical solution for the community.

He explained that throughout the process, he remained in contact with residents, held discussions with the Local Council, and coordinated efforts aimed at addressing the concerns being raised by the people of Luqa. Rababah also thanked Councillor Matthew Spiteri, whom he described as having stood “shoulder to shoulder” with him throughout the work that ultimately led to the withdrawal of the application.

The issue had sparked significant backlash among residents, with many expressing concerns and frustration over the proposal. Rababah argued that, while others focused on attacks and division, his priority remained achieving a concrete result for the locality.

“This is how I work, quietly, seriously, and with respect toward everyone,” Rababah stated, adding that he wants to remain “a shield” for his constituents and continue staying close to the people he represents.

The Labour candidate concluded by reaffirming his commitment to serving residents through dialogue, action, and practical solutions rather than political confrontation.
