Omar Farrugia Defends Public Sector Workers After Opposition Question

Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works Omar Farrugia has defended Gozitan public service workers following an Opposition parliamentary question addressed to Prime Minister Robert Abela.
Opposition MP Graziella Attard Previ asked whether the Auditor General would be called to investigate government employees from Gozo who allegedly leave their workplace at 10am. The question was directed at the Prime Minister, but Farrugia responded publicly through a video statement posted today, where he stood by the workers and strongly criticised the Opposition’s approach.
Farrugia described it as “ironic” that while the newly elected Opposition Leader comes from Gozo, the same party is now attacking Gozitan public sector employees. He insisted that this administration has always supported its workers, pointing to collective agreements and stronger working conditions that safeguard their rights.
The youngest Cabinet member, stressed that both Maltese and Gozitan employees are crucial to the country’s social and economic success, contrasting this with what he called the Opposition’s attempts to undermine the public service. He concluded that the Labour Government will continue to stand firmly behind these workers and their families.
