Ocean Sunfish Spotted Off Malta’s South-East Coast

Taking to social media, marine biologist Alan Deidun shared a photo of an Ocean Sunfish, known as Mola mola, ‘pixxiluna’ or ‘pixxitanbur’, which was spotted in local waters.
The sunfish was spotted off the south-east coast of Malta, and it’s a species that can grow to a maximum weight of over 3 tons.
It is even listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest number of eggs it holds, which is a whopping 300 million eggs in a single clutch.
