A number of veterinary professionals were officially awarded their warrants during a ceremony which recognised the essential role that these professionals play in safeguarding public health, animal health and welfare in Malta.

The ceremony was an occasion to recognise the dedication, perseverance and professional sacrifices of these veterinarians, many of whom have completed intensive studies both in Malta and abroad.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, stressed that the veterinary profession plays a fundamental role in the public health system, particularly in the "farm to fork" concept, where their work also includes ensuring that food products are safe, of quality and comply with the highest standards.

The Minister also mentioned the continuous investment being made in the sector, including the work to introduce for the first time in our country a veterinary course in collaboration between MCAST and the University of Barcelona accredited by the European Union. This step is considered to be a historic one that is strengthening educational opportunities for Maltese and Gozitan students who previously had to travel abroad to pursue this career.

For his part, the Chairman of the Council of Veterinarians, Dr Natalino Caruana de Brincat, thanked the professionals for their commitment to the high standards of the profession and reiterated that the granting of the warrant is a symbol of trust, responsibility and professional ethics.

These developments are an important step forward for the future of veterinary medicine in Malta, with a focus on quality, responsibility and the protection of public and animal health.
